Celebrating International Women's Day (IWD)
IWD is about celebrating women's achievement, raising awareness against bias and taking action for equality.
As changemakers, the project management profession has an important role in furthering diversity and inclusion across all industry sectors. In a recent PMI Pulse of the Profession study “A Case for Diversity”, 88% of project leaders recognise culturally diverse and gender diverse teams increase project value. The ROI for gender based initiatives is strong with 63% of top performing organisations providing initiatives including:
- Women’s networking
- Events designed to develop business
- Technical or leadership skills among school-age girls and formal mentorship programme to develop female project leaders
On March 8th 2021, the PMI UK hosted a virtual event presented by our very own Ariadna Groberio (Chair of Northern Ireland Branch) and joined by Hanna Meirelles (International Trainer and Development Facilitator), Brantlee Underhill (Managing Director, North America PMI) and Christine White (Head of Business at Diversity Mark NI). The discussion explored:
- Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world
- Wellness - How to get inspired and stay motivated
- Managing your projects and your professional life for success

PMI UK Wonder Women - Change Maker Stories
We recognise that there is still quite a long way to go in reaching gender equality and beyond the IWD event, will be sharing some of the inspiring stories from across the profession, our membership and volunteer community that they may serve to raise awareness and encouragement for all. These stories will also be shared through our social media posts (follow us on LinkedIn), chapter newsletter, and blog.
